FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions
- (Q) Can corbels/brackets be painted? Must they be painted?
(A) All of our items can be painted to any color using a high quality acrylic latex paint. Our products are made of materials that have a closed cell structure. This means that they will not absorb moisture. The main cause of paint failures (peeling, cracking, bubbling) is moisture getting behind the coating and damaging the bond. This will not happen with our products. Brackets/corbels made of PVC do not need to be painted, but they can be. There are special considerations if you want to paint our PVC items with a dark color when using them in an exterior application where they will encounter direct sunlight. Polyurethane Brackets/corbels should be painted if they are going to be used in an exterior application. The product information on each item will tell you if they are made of PVC or polyurethane.
- (Q) What is the difference between products made from polyurethane and those made of PVC?
(A) The quick answer is that polyurethane products are made by casting a liquid resin in a mold while PVC products start out as a sheet of material, but there is so much more to it, click here to learn more.
- (Q) Can your corbels support a granite counter top?
(A) Wood corbels are structural in nature as is any wood product. Our polyurethane corbels will hold some weight but are not designed to be structural and have not been specifically tested for that purpose. We cannot make any specific recommendations as to load bearing capacities.
- (Q) Are your Corbels/brackets structural? (Load-bearing)
(A) Our PVC and polyurethane products are used in situations that make them appear to be supporting a load (roof overhangs, etc.) but they are not actually designed to be structural. They are decorative only.
- (Q) What type of maintenance is needed to keep the products looking good?
(A) Very little. Our polyurethane, PVC, and fiberglass products are all low maintenance millwork products, making them ideal for both the interior and exterior of the home. Some of our items are carved wood, and are described as such in their individual product descriptions. These items are made from wood and should be used for interior applications only.
